We are pleased to announce that the 21st ICIG Symposium will take place on 4-6 June, 2019. The symposium will be hosted by Professor Xinming He who leads the Marketing and International Business Research Centre at the triple accredited Durham University Business School (DUBS) in association with Professor Balmer of the Marketing & Corporate Brand Research Group at Brunel University London.
Durham University Business School is a constituent part of the University of Durham: England’s third oldest University. The University has a sterling international reputation for its research, scholarship, and teaching and, as with Oxford and Cambridge, is a collegiate University (all students need to be affiliated to one of the University’s colleges). Durham City is a quintessential English cathedral city and its Romanesque Cathedral and Norman Castle constitute a UNESCO world heritage site. For Professor Balmer Durham has a special personal relevance because his interest in corporate identity was kindled whilst reading for an MBA at Durham.
The Conference Dinner will take place at Durham Castle (University College). Included in the cost will be a visit to the Beamish Open Air Museum: a “living” museum which preserves and celebrates everyday urban and rural life of the North East of England at the turn of the 20th Century. In line with previous symposia we aim to limit attendees to 20-30 in order to maintain a collegial atmosphere.
The organisers welcome either theoretical or empirical papers as well as case studies, which focus on corporate identity, corporate branding, corporate marketing, corporate image and reputation, internal and employer branding, corporate brand orientation, CSR and ethical branding, organisational and corporate communications, stakeholders management etc.
The symposium is jointly organised by Professor John MT Balmer (ICIG Founder & Chairman) and Professor Xinming He (Director of the Marketing and International Business Research Centre, DUBS).
The broad theme for the 21st ICIG Symposium is “International perspectives on corporate marketing, identity, communications, image and corporate branding.” Whilst the organisers welcome papers which speak to the conference theme, they also welcome papers which have a clear focus on one of the following: corporate-level constructs including, corporate identity, corporate brands, corporate image/reputation, corporate marketing, and corporate communication. Empirical and conceptual papers are welcome. We do not privilege any particular research tradition so quantitative, qualitative, case studies are welcome. Following the distinctive ICIG tradition we welcome papers from senior academics, other academics and especially welcome new scholars to the field including PhD students. It is envisaged that a special edition of a journal/other publication will be associated with the symposium.
